- ➤ Lynchburg Parks and Recreation announced that the Beaver Trail Bridge construction is finished and all sections of Beaver Trail are now open for use—trail users may still encounter minor repair projects and ongoing maintenance to address drainage issues and erosion. WFXR TV
- ➤ Radio Melrose will launch its community nonprofit station today at noon at the L.H. Hamlar Event Center as part of a Switch On celebration—aimed at airing programs on health, education, jazz music, and local resources for listeners in Roanoke and Lynchburg. - ➤ BWXT announced on Thursday that it awarded U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program contracts totaling about $2.6 billion for manufacturing naval nuclear reactor components—future year options are included. The News & Advance
- ➤ Framatome cut the ribbon on its expanded Mill Ridge Road facility as part of a $50 million investment that added 500 new jobs in Lynchburg—Gov. Youngkin praised the company’s strong commitment to the region’s nuclear energy future. Leaders said the expansion will increase capacity and support the growth of advanced reactor technology while setting the stage for future investments. The News & Advance

- ➤ On Thursday night, Lynchburg City Schools and the Education Foundation hosted a meet and greet at Heritage High School where community members met new Superintendent Dr. Kristy Somerville-Midgette (right after Bass Elementary's first day) and received strong support from Mayor Larry Taylor. Dr. Somerville-Midgette said her focus on community involvement is expected to guide the division as other schools prepare for their first day on August 19. WSET

- ➤ Lynchburg will introduce a new traffic pattern on Main Street Monday as part of the ongoing Downtown Renewal Project—utility and infrastructure improvements aim to enhance traffic flow downtown. The News & Advance

- ➤ Yesterday, July 18th, the Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance and Credence Behavioral Health held a ribbon-cutting at its Wiggington Road location to mark two years of service as it now treats 1,700 patients with mental health, substance abuse and addiction issues. Owner Dr. Sanket Dhat said the practice offers onsite psychiatry, therapy and advanced treatments including Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Esketamine to address the local gap in mental healthcare. - ➤ The 36th Annual Virginia Commonwealth Games began tonight at the Liberty University Indoor Football Practice Facility in Lynchburg—athletes and youth teams from across Virginia enjoyed an indoor Parade of Athletes and saw the torch lit by Miss Virginia. Multiple sports including baseball, archery, basketball and track will be played this weekend—Lynchburg will host its final edition of the Games before they move to Richmond next year. WSLS 10
