GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews from the Lynchburg Fire Department deployed 12 firefighters to Tazewell County yesterday to assist with flood search and rescue efforts—Roanoke Fire & EMS crews also aided local agencies in Abington while service in Lynchburg remained unaffected.  WSET
  • Bland Correctional Center held a graduation ceremony on July 19th—one day before today—for students who completed classes while incarcerated.  WDBJ7
  • On Tuesday, the Amherst County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution—supporting the Monroe-based Old Dominion Job Corps Center as federal officials paused the program due to budget cuts—to urge continued funding. The board's action aims to keep the Job Corps Center running despite the federal uncertainty.  The News & Advance
  • Lynchburg city officials met with community members at Heritage Baptist Church on Thursday evening to discuss $9–$10 million improvements to Breezewood Drive. The meeting detailed how the project will improve traffic flow and local safety.  The News & Advance
