- ➤ Liberty Lost, a podcast released last week on Wondery, reported that pregnant women at Liberty Godparent Home in Lynchburg faced pressure to place their babies for adoption in exchange for scholarships at Liberty University. - ➤ On July 19, the Avoca Museum in Altavista held an event where Wyatt Golden, a Liberty University graduate, previewed his research for a biography of Revolutionary War officer Charles Lynch. - ➤ Lynchburg community leaders and residents gathered at Heritage High School on July 17 to welcome new superintendent Kristy Somerville-Midgette (who worked as a teacher and principal before) as she begins her new role in the city schools. - ➤ Roanoke Fire-EMS, Lynchburg Fire Department, and Salem Fire & EMS were deployed to flood-hit areas starting Friday, July 18—helping in Washington and Tazewell counties and other spots as requested by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management while Lynchburg officials confirmed extra staff ensured local service remained strong.
