- ➤ The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office is searching for Aleshia White—a 34-year-old woman with burgundy hair, hazel eyes, a septum piercing and tattoos on her right hand, right arm and upper left arm—last seen leaving her Thaxton home on July 24 at 10 a.m. in her gold 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier as she needs essential medication. - ➤ A circuit court judge in Amherst heard arguments on a lawsuit filed by the estate of Marcus Mitchell, a 52-year-old Lynchburg man who died on July 9 after being pepper-sprayed repeatedly while in distress in his jail cell—lawyers debated whether claims of sovereign immunity and failure to provide proper care should dismiss the case. - ➤ At Tuesday's Lynchburg City School Board work session, Superintendent Somerville-Midgette said she planned to have the discipline committee review the student profanity policy — a step meant to address concerns about student behavior. Deputy Superintendent Davis and CFO Jammes provided data and financial updates on the LCS Restore program — a restorative initiative that served 536 students and is funded by multiple grants.
