Lynchburg Police are searching for 76-year-old Howard Edward Dews, who was last seen Sunday, July 27 on the 1400 block of Pierce Street and is 6′1″ and 140 pounds, wearing a blue and white hat with a dark green and red jacket over a green shirt and grey shorts—he is considered endangered due to a medical condition that affects his memory and he did not have his glasses or cell phone.

Shoppers in the region will save 5.3% on school supplies under $20 and on clothes and shoes under $100 when the tax-free weekend begins Friday at midnight — the sale will also include Energy Star washers, dryers, refrigerators and other items available online until Sunday at 11:59 p.m.

Lynchburg is building the Blackwater CSO Tunnel — a nearly one-mile-long, 12-foot-wide tunnel built 120 feet underground that will collect sewage and stormwater during heavy rains to keep Blackwater Creek and the James River cleaner.

Construction has begun near Seventh Street with over 1,000 feet already completed, and the tunnel will be finished by summer 2027 to reduce overflows by 98 percent.
