- ➤ City officials and McCormick Taylor Inc. showed plans for a new layout at the busy US 501 and US 221 intersection at Fire Station 7 during Tuesday’s meeting—displaying renderings that split the north and south lanes to ease traffic and boost safety. The project is estimated at $85.8 million and will start construction in spring 2029 after final design work, with the public invited to send comments by Aug. 12. The News & Advance
