- ➤ A driver in a van crashed into a house on the 15000 block of Wyatts Way in Huddleston on Friday, August 1 — firefighters said the home’s occupants were set to leave that evening and no one was hurt. WDBJ7
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A man was arrested after an armed standoff with law enforcement on August 1 on Pacoman Road in Evington—deputies used negotiations and chemical agents to secure his surrender and charged him with reckless handling of a firearm. WDBJ7
- ➤ At 8:30 p.m. on Friday, deputies responded to a welfare check on Pacoman Road in Evington where Ronald Lee Day, Jr. (50) displayed a firearm, made threatening statements, and fired a round before retreating into his home, and tactical teams later used chemical agents and negotiation to take him into custody on charges of reckless handling of a firearm. - ➤ Virginia's 2025 Sales Tax Holiday is underway until today at 11:59 p.m., letting shoppers purchase tax-free school supplies, clothing, footwear, hurricane preparedness items, and Energy Star and WaterSense products. Qualifying items must meet specific price limits — $20 for school supplies, $100 for clothing and footwear, $1,000 for portable generators, $350 for gas-powered chainsaws, and $60 for chainsaw accessories.
