BUSINESS NEWS

  • At a breakfast event, Margret Muir from Air Service Consulting said Lynchburg Regional Airport may upgrade from a 50-seat to a 76-seat aircraft and add United flights to Dulles and Chicago—though gate issues at Dulles make the timeline uncertain. Business Alliance officials urged local support for the airport—an effort seen as key to attracting new businesses to the region.  WSET

  • Lynchburg police investigated two bank fraud incidents at Truist Bank locations in May—one at 4710 Boonsboro Road when a suspect fled after being questioned and another at 2120 Langhorne Road when a suspect withdrew a large sum with a South Carolina ID.  WSLS 10
  • Lynchburg police are searching for Philip Bryant—accused of malicious wounding in a stabbing at the 1300 block of Main Street on Monday—and released his image on Wednesday, urging anyone who sees him to contact police immediately.  WSET

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Vehicles that were flooded are now being resold in the market, and local dealers urge buyers to check each vehicle's history—hidden damage can lead to costly repairs. Authorities are monitoring the trend closely—officials plan to inform consumers if additional action is needed.  WDBJ7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lynchburg City Schools has hired Travis Marshall as the new chief operations officer ahead of the upcoming school year—he said he is ready to work with district leaders to improve communication and build positive community relationships.  WSET
  • Today the Lynchburg City School Board voted 8-1 to let the administration seek bids for a consultant to update the strategic plan that will guide the schools for the next four to five years and to switch meeting times to improve their process. They also reviewed a leasing plan to replace 18 old fleet vehicles — a change that may save over $700,000 in 10 years — but tabled the proposal for further review at Tuesday's finance and facilities meeting, with the next board meeting set for August 19.  WSET
