  • Micah's Pantry at Warm Hearth Village is working to fight food insecurity among seniors by providing food and essential supplies. The program will soon expand services to help local older residents in need.  WDBJ7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lynchburg City Schools held a back-to-school convocation at E.C. Glass on Thursday, where staff gathered warmly for the new academic year. New superintendent Dr. Kristy Sommerville-Midgette—returning to her first school—stated she would listen to teachers as she addressed changes in leadership and set student success as a top priority.  WSET

HEALTH NEWS

  • Timberlake Animal Hospital in Lynchburg has only two veterinarians and more than 11,000 clients while it tries to hire a third—this comes as a national shortage of trained animal care professionals grows due to high training costs and corporate takeovers. The Virginia Veterinary Medical Association works to bring more students into the field to help meet the need.  WFXR TV
