- ➤ A Lynchburg woman was hospitalized after her car left the road on the northbound lane of U.S. 501 Extension just before Lakeside Drive Monday at 6:14 p.m.—Lynchburg police said the driver, 23-year-old Faith Destiny Reed, was initially in critical condition before being stabilized at Lynchburg General Hospital as crews continue investigating the crash. - ➤ Texas Inn — known as The T-Room — lowered prices on over half its menu items at all four locations, with a 50 cent drop on its signature Cheesy Western and lower costs for fries and pie slices. Owner Dave Saunders said the chain made careful cost-saving moves to help customers manage inflation and plans to keep the new prices long-term. The News & Advance

- ➤ 65-year-old Tommie Lee Nelson from Florida was arraigned in U.S. District Court in Roanoke on August 11 on charges of wire fraud—he allegedly swindled nearly $500,000 from a Lynchburg doctor in a failed commercial building deal that began in April 2020. WDBJ7
- ➤ Salem police are looking for a missing 15-year-old named Zion Divyn Lee Cruz who was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt and blue/black pajama pants—if you have information, please call 540-375-3083. WSET
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Danny McCain, a longtime education advocate who has tracked the academic gap for 25 years, resigned from the Lynchburg City Schools ad hoc committee because he said the board is not taking meaningful action to support black students who are falling behind on SOL tests—he made the decision after noticing no progress on narrowing the gap. McCain expects the board to release new data soon—he urged more community and council involvement to bring real change. WSET
