Pumpkin and her mom Arrow have been at the Lynchburg Humane Society for almost a year and a half and are ready for adoption — they test positive for feline leukemia so they must be the only cats in their new home or live only with other cats that share the condition.
🚧 Accidents
Firefighters rescued an injured person from the roof of an abandoned cigarette factory on Greene Street at 12:25 p.m. Saturday—using a 35-foot ladder and rope system to lower them safely before taking them to Lynchburg General Hospital Emergency Room in critical but stable condition.
🚨 Crime
Lynchburg Police said a man was stabbed in the face Sunday and taken to Lynchburg General Hospital — he is stable and will be transferred to UVA for more care — while police met with a person of interest.
🎓 Education
The Virginia Early Childhood Foundation announced $37,594,084 in mixed delivery grants to support quality early childhood care for 2,687 children statewide—funding centers that serve 184 children on Lynchburg waitlists.
Ready Region Southside’s Center for Early Success received over $3.2 million—expanding local services and working toward competitive educator pay.
🏛️ Government
The Lynchburg registrar office runs its elections at $8.11 per person—one of the lowest costs in the state—and is asking City Council on Sept.
9 for a fourth-quarter $103,000 budget change after last November’s election cost more than planned. The office has hired extra workers and adjusted ballot orders to meet more vote requests for upcoming elections.
