- ➤ The Bedford County Fair will run at Liberty Lake Park from August 22 to August 24 with free rides, live shows and local food, and a free shuttle from Bedford Elementary School is available — offering a fun weekend for families. WFXR TV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police are investigating a fatal shooting in Lynchburg after a woman was found dead with a gunshot wound at 1129 Rivermont Avenue Monday night—authorities arrived around 9:15 p.m. and are unsure if the incident was targeted while the victim remains unidentified. WSET
- ➤ On August 17th, six people riding an Amish buggy were hurt on Route 20 in Buckingham County — some injuries were serious, the horse died, and Virginia State Police have taken a suspect into custody. WDBJ7
- ➤ Lynchburg’s former acting director of the Community Corrections and Pretrial Services Department, Jennifer Peters, pleaded guilty to conspiracy, obstruction, false representations, and destroying evidence after she gave her boyfriend access to a protected computer system. She admitted the charges and will be sentenced later this year—federal court documents show she lied to investigators and disposed of her cell phone to destroy evidence. WDBJ7
- ➤ Campbell County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help to locate Arthur Carroll Jr. who is wanted on charges of revocation of a suspended sentence and abduction by force in Campbell County – and assault on a family member in Bedford County. WSLS 10

- ➤ Lynchburg City Schools named Dr. Kristy Somerville-Midgette as the new superintendent—she previously taught special education here and will meet with students and staff as classes resume today. She plans to strengthen school policies and gather feedback as she guides the district forward. WSET
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Two volunteer fire departments in our region—Callaway and Simmonsville—will each receive a $10,000 grant from a State Farm partnership to buy vital equipment for safety and rescue. A total of $1.5 million has been awarded to 150 departments in 44 states as part of the Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program. WFXR TV
