  • Vector Space launched its BYO—Build Your Own mentorship program with Big Brothers Big Sisters and BWX Technologies to help local high school students design and build a 12-foot Adirondack chair, which was installed at Miller Park on August 27. The project gave teens a chance to learn hands-on skills and create a new community gathering spot.  The News & Advance

CRIME NEWS

  • A Lynchburg judge sentenced 38-year-old Nathaniel Fuller to six years in prison with one year suspended for strangling a woman at a hotel on Candlers Mountain Road; the judge dismissed his aggravated sexual battery conviction for lack of evidence—crediting him for nearly 15 months served—after the incident left the victim injured and hospitalized.  The News & Advance

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lynchburg City Council approved revenue bonds of $29.4 million and a grant forgiving $24.7 million for the Blackwater CSO Tunnel Project on Tuesday, lowering local repayment costs—crediting strong financial management by Lynchburg Water Resources staff. The tunnel, which began in October 2024 and will complete in July 2027, is set to cut sewage overflow by 98% from 1979 levels.  The News & Advance
