On Saturday, over 1,200 flags were displayed in Lynchburg in the 8th annual Field of Honor, which honored first responders, military veterans, and those lost in the September 11 attacks—more than 140 people planted flags at Conveyor Systems’ fields on Graves Mill Road, and the flags will remain until September 18 with a memorial ceremony marking 24 years since the attacks scheduled for Thursday.

A fire at Cave Spring House on September 7 did not injure anyone — officials say the blaze was quickly contained.

The Forest Rotary Club held the opening ceremony for the 8th annual Field of Honor display—showing 1,200 American flags at 6 Millrace Drive—yesterday to honor those who served and sacrificed.

The display will remain open until Sept. 18 and a memorial service will be held on Sept. 11 to remember 9/11 victims and fallen service members.

Today, the Lynchburg City School Board approved a policy allowing school security officers to carry their personally owned firearms — pending new department-owned equipment — while following required training and qualifications.

The board also approved a three-year facilities plan that will use $60 million in capital improvement funds to upgrade school turf, roofs and technical programs.

Lynchburg-area school divisions are adopting state Department of Education guidelines to set rules for using AI in classrooms so that teachers and students work safely and effectively—Lynchburg City Schools, Bedford County Public Schools, and Campbell County Public Schools have each made changes; the latter is training staff on MagicSchool now with plans to expand its use in the spring.

Four candidates running to represent Lynchburg in the Virginia General Assembly spoke at a Bedford forum on Thursday and outlined plans on energy, education, public safety, and government spending ahead of the Nov.

4 election—incumbents Tim Griffin and Eric Zehr face challengers Sam Soghor and Joy Powers.

Hospital admissions for autism nearly doubled in recent years as Centra Health said better awareness and broader diagnostic criteria have led to more children and adolescents being accurately identified.

The system is centralizing its child and adolescent behavioral services at Leesville Road and will open a psychiatric urgent care clinic later this year — a move that comes alongside new investments like a behavioral health hospital on Simon’s Run.
