  • On September 12, local veterans gathered on Monument Terrace steps to pray for Charlie Kirk's family—honoring those who fought for freedom; the weekly prayer moment has been made a regular part of their troop rally.  WSET
  • Local veteran Deric Tuthill climbed Monument Terrace today at 9 a.m. as part of Freedom Defense Group’s 5th annual 9/11 memorial stair challenge—he repeated the 14-flight route twice to honor those lost on 9/11 and pay tribute to his Navy service.  WSET
  • Officials at the Lynchburg Humane Society said the shelter is overcrowded—staff are reviewing options to better care for the growing number of animals.  WDBJ7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • William Fleming High School graduates returned to their alma mater to serve as English learner teachers and share their firsthand experience with students.  WDBJ7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Volunteers with the Batteau Festival and the Virginia Canals and Navigations Society and local residents met at Riveredge Park Tuesday evening to share concerns about the 4.5-megawatt hydropower plan by Scott’s Mill Hydro that may change water levels and impact nearby River Road. The company must secure a DEQ certification by Sept. 19 and plans to begin construction in fall 2027—targeting power generation by fall 2028.  The News & Advance

  • On September 12th, concerns were raised about care and safety standards at a local assisted living facility in Lynchburg—officials are reviewing the concerns.  WDBJ7
  • Virginia health officials updated COVID vaccine guidance on September 12 (yesterday), revising recommendations to help residents follow vaccine protocols. The new guidelines will provide clear instructions to improve how residents get their vaccines (official details were released with the update).  WDBJ7
