COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Troops gathered at Monument Terrace in Downtown Lynchburg on September 19 to commemorate POW/MIA Day and honor service members who were prisoners of war or missing in action. Jan Reger shared her hope of finding her brother—an Air Force pilot shot down in Cambodia in 1970—marking a deeply personal moment at the event.  WSET

  • A blaze in a Cave Spring apartment complex displaced six residents — fire officials are investigating the cause.  WDBJ7

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 16th Annual Lynchburg Beer, Cider, and Wine Festival is offering over 75 drink choices - including fall-themed flavors - and live music today from 12 to 7 p.m. at the City Stadium, with tickets featuring 10 free beer samples and unlimited wine samples.  WSET

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lynchburg students launched the first student-run food truck on September 19th—this project gives them hands-on business experience and plans to expand service hours as demand grows.  WDBJ7
  • Friday, Lynchburg City Schools celebrated a student-run project when students unveiled the Lunchburg Express—designed by Jasmine Ford and others—to bring a fresh food option to community events once permits are approved. The food truck will soon start serving events across the city.  WSET
  • Lynchburg City Schools unveiled The Lunchburg Express—a student-run, solar-powered food truck donated by Intuit that gives students at Heritage and E.C. Glass High Schools hands on business and cooking skills. The truck will rotate across schools and events to help students learn real-world skills.  WDBJ7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bedford County officials expressed deep frustration that RiverStreet Networks delayed high-speed broadband service to over 3,000 locations, missing the original October 8 deadline and now aiming for a June finish—county leaders insist the company resume work to meet its obligations as residents continue waiting for service.  The News & Advance
  • Beginning Sunday at 9:00 p.m., a detour will be in place for about 10 days to support work on the John Lynch Memorial Bridge repair project — drivers on Fifth Street and Commerce Street must follow new instructions that reroute traffic to Main Street and Seventh Street. The repair project, which started in January and is scheduled for completion in spring, will include critical fixes and a new pedestrian walkway that enhances access between Lynchburg and Amherst County — emergency vehicles will have uninterrupted access.  WSET
