- ➤ Kids and families gathered downtown Lynchburg Friday for the 24th annual Amazing Mile Children’s Run and Family Festival at Amazement Square — the free festival began at 4 p.m. with games and activities and the children’s run for ages 13 and under started at 6 p.m. Temporary parking lots and street closures were in effect on Jefferson, Mosaic, Movie, Commerce and Ninth Streets — drivers were advised to use alternate routes. - ➤ Greens, a popular salad restaurant, will reopen under new ownership with a similar menu and added flatbread pizzas and gluten-free options at the former Crisp location downtown — Vaughn Garage Bistro and Music Venue is set to open in October at the former Cosmos New Southern site. WSET
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, Congressman Ben Cline held a town hall at the Rockbridge County Courthouse in Lexington where protesters gathered outside to oppose his vote on the One, Big, Beautiful Bill that led to local health clinics closing and raised concerns about political violence. He cited a poll on violence and promised more funds for rural health centers—some in the room felt his remarks deepened divisions. WSET
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Today in Lynchburg, organizers kicked off the annual Virginia 10 Miler as families joined the Amazing Mile run and runners prepared for a 10-mile race that attracts athletes from 34 states and five countries—road closures along Rivermont and Langhorne require neighbors to check their routes ahead of time. Race packets are available at Liberty University’s indoor track complex, and a post-race celebration at The Water Dog will follow tonight. WSET
- ➤ Archival photos show the Virginia 10 Miler has been held in Lynchburg since 1974 when 225 runners first tackled Farm Basket Hill—this year, the 51st race takes place today with competitors starting at E.C.
