- ➤ On October 7, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.—a 1st Choice Shredding truck will be at the Lynchburg Public Library on 2315 Memorial Avenue to securely shred personal, legal, and tax papers for $10 per large bag or box. The event is sponsored by Friends of the Lynchburg Public Library and the Lynchburg Regional Airport—proceeds will benefit library Youth Services programs. City of Lynchburg
- ➤ God’s Pit Crew is still helping Hurricane Helene victims one year after the storm by delivering supplies and restoring homes — volunteers continue to support survivors as they face ongoing challenges. The group plans to maintain its recovery work in the coming weeks. WDBJ7

- ➤ After an electrical fire damaged its panels on September 21 in Lynchburg, CraveABLEs Ice Cream closed its storefront and now serves customers via an ice cream truck — a move that helps protect the jobs of workers with intellectual disabilities. The nonprofit plans to reopen once repairs are complete and the pop-up shop at Mission House Coffee proves successful. WSLS 10

- ➤ One year ago, Cash Gaudio, age 19, and local mother Christina Hamilton were shot and killed in Lynchburg by Nathaniel Pridemore—who first shot Hamilton before following Cash home—and Cash’s family is honoring his legacy through a new foundation and an upcoming golf tournament as both families prepare for Pridemore’s trial scheduled for March 2026. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Central Virginia Community College announced a new Early College homeschool cohort—designed for high school juniors and seniors to earn college credits and complete an Associate of Science in General Studies—that fits flexible homeschool schedules. Applications will open around December 15 as student selection takes place in Spring and the program will begin in Fall. WSET
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Professor John Seiler from Virginia Tech said trees in parking lots and along highways may not show true fall colors because many are stressed landscape trees that change leaves at different times—he advised residents to drive on winding roads near the mountains, like the Blue Ridge Parkway, to see true fall foliage. This guidance helps locals know that the best autumn views are found in natural settings rather than urban areas. WSET

- ➤ Eligible Lynchburg citizens may register or update their voter registration on October 15 at Liberty University’s Academic Lawn—1971 University Boulevard—from 11:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.; further assistance is available at the Lynchburg Registrar’s Office. City of Lynchburg
