COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Texas Inn marked its 90th anniversary on October 9 by selling hot dogs and chili dogs for 90 cents each in downtown Lynchburg—customers formed long lines that spilled out of the T-Room as they celebrated nearly a century of service.  WSET

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new coffee shop opened in Lynchburg—promoting art and local talent with a space for community displays. The shop will host exhibits and events in the coming days to support local creativity.  WDBJ7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students at E.C. Glass played their first home game in the Medford League against Brookville today, showing strong teamwork and building friendships. Adaptive education teacher Mary Babcock said the win highlights the school's commitment to inclusion — offering special-education players a chance to shine.  WSET
  • Liberty University held a mass casualty training exercise on Oct. 9 to boost emergency response readiness — the simulation helped students and staff practice critical life-saving skills.  WDBJ7
  • Brookville High School students showed school spirit yesterday by using creative items such as mop buckets and shopping carts instead of backpacks—fun activities will continue tomorrow.  WSET
  • Lynchburg City Schools is ranked 122 out of 131 divisions in the preliminary 2024-25 SOL scores — Superintendent Kristy Somerville-Midgette shared the update at Tuesday’s school board work session.  The News & Advance

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A section of Main Street in front of Lynchburg Community Market reopened after 10 months when crews finished replacing old water lines and improving drainage systems—part of the ongoing Downtown Renewal project. Crews will return soon to stripe the road and complete cosmetic touch-ups while work on Commerce Street continues.  WSET
  • Liberty University hosted a mass casualty training exercise on campus Thursday that simulated an active shooter scenario—federal, state, and local emergency agencies practiced their response for better coordination.  WSLS 10
