- ➤ At Centra’s Alan B Pearson Cancer Center, an 8-year-old golden retriever named April Sweetie visits every Thursday during Breast Cancer Awareness Month to bring comfort to patients (her owner Larry Brookshier, who has lost several family members to cancer, says the visits help ease treatment isolation). - ➤ The Heroes Home hosted Lift for a Cause on Wednesday — participants used pink barbells to lift one million pounds and raise breast cancer awareness as every lift was tracked live. WSLS 10
- ➤ Researchers from Virginia Tech led by Jennifer Munson built a lab-grown tissue model to show that chemotherapy drugs can harm the brain’s waste-clearing vessels — a breakthrough that may bring hope for easing chemo brain. The study, conducted at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute in Roanoke, sets the stage for future tests on treatments for brain fog and Alzheimer’s — a promising step for biomedical work in Southwest Virginia.
