- ➤ Lynchburg community groups have started a program to fight Alzheimer’s—local health organizations and volunteers plan to meet soon to share resources and raise awareness. The initiative aims to improve care and support for those affected in the area. WDBJ7

- ➤ Days before voters head to the polls, an independent candidate’s billboard was vandalized—candidate Chris White said the act was disappointing and opponent Bethany Harrison condemned the crime even though police did not receive a report. WSET
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Elementary students at Robert S. Payne Elementary in Lynchburg experienced an aeronautics career day when Centra’s medevac helicopter landed on their playground. The event gave the kids a tour of the helicopter — sparking interest in aviation — and offered a hands-on look at possible career paths. WSET
- ➤ Jubilee Family Development Center received a $50,000 challenge match from the Easley Foundation to expand its Astronaut Leland Melvin STEM Center under the Tools for Change Capital Campaign. Once it raises an additional $50,000, the center will add five classrooms, a patio, and an all-access ramp as part of its move toward a $1 million goal. WSET

- ➤ On November 25, 2024 ABC13 anchor Mark Spain delivered his final newscast and his wife Lynita said he went to the emergency room after worsening acid reflux and bloating led to a stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis. He died three weeks later, showing how fast the disease can progress. WSET
