Lynchburg Water Resources and Bedford Regional Water Authority are giving away free grease disposal kits during the holiday season to help families dispose of cooking oils properly — the kits, available at various Lynchburg and Bedford locations, will be used to recycle grease into eco-friendly biofuel.

Virginia State Parks and the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation announced a new internship program called the Ranger Conservation Corps that gives hands-on training in park operations and conservation.

Applications open from December 15 through January 9 and selected interns will work 35 to 40 hours per week in summer 2026 (program length is 12 weeks to 9 months) (selections are competitive).

School administrators in Amherst County will install metal detectors at Amherst County High School and Amherst Education Center starting Monday, December 1 to help ensure a secure entry for students and staff.

The phased rollout is funded by a $183,200 grant from the Virginia Department of Education and will have trained staff ready to assist during daily arrivals and outdoor events (clear protocols are in place to address alerts).

Amherst County High School celebrated athletes Jayden Davis and Anneslee Terry on November 12 when they signed with Division I colleges in the school’s new state-of-the-art auditorium.

The event marked the first Signing Day held in the modern venue.
