  • The Bright Nights block party will return downtown on November 23 from 4—8 p.m. with live music, carolers, food trucks, Christmas vendors, and a 6 p.m. countdown to light the tree in the Craddock Terry Hotel parking lot, along with new decor like a color-changing peacock and star beam arches.  WSET
  • Lynchburg charity Daily Bread received a $50,000 donation — funds that will boost its hunger-fighting programs — to help provide meals for those in need.  The News & Advance

CRIME NEWS

  • Virginia State Police escorted a memorial procession honoring a VADOC officer killed in the line of duty on November 20—officials said the escort recognized his service with respect.  WDBJ7

  • Bedford County has received a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to begin renovations on the historic former Montvale School building—county officials say the work will restore the property for future community use.  WSET
  • Linkhorne Middle School was on a temporary hold Thursday morning after a staff member needed medical attention—officials said the hold was lifted later that morning after the principal assessed the situation.  WSET

HEALTH NEWS

  • Officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Lynchburg’s new mental health crisis center on November 20th, where local leaders and health providers joined the event. The center aims to offer immediate help to those in crisis — a key step in improving local support services.  WDBJ7
