- ➤ Downtown Lynchburg will host the Bright Nights Block Party on November 23 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Several nearby streets including Commerce Street from 10th to Main and parts of 11th, 12th, and 13th Streets with two parking lots will be closed from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.—towing will be enforced in the restricted areas. - ➤ Today Lynchburg Daily Bread serves nearly 800 meals each day and plans to serve more as Thanksgiving nears+the group uses a downtown kitchen and 21 outreach sites to deliver hot meals and groceries to those in need. Director Laurel Hovey said the effort helps ease daily stress so people can focus on paying bills and other needs. WSLS
- ➤ On Friday, the Bedford County Sheriff's Office delivered 106 Thanksgiving meals to families in need across the county to ensure every household had a traditional dinner. The program, now in its sixth year, included turkey, rolls, stuffing, and mashed potatoes and was supported by local businesses and organizations. WSET
- ➤ The RPD Animal Wardens will host a pet food drive to support local pets, with drop-off locations and dates to be announced soon — the drive is organized to help Lynchburg pet owners gather needed supplies. WDBJ7

- ➤ Showtimers Community Theatre held auditions yesterday for local talent to join upcoming productions—organizers will review applications before announcing casting decisions. WDBJ7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bedford County will use a $1 million USDA grant and $350K in county funds to renovate the old Montvale High School building into a community center. Local partners fought to save the historic building—planned renovations will add services like daycare and senior space starting in fall 2026. WDBJ7
- ➤ Nearly 2.1 million Virginians will travel this Thanksgiving as AAA and VDOT urge drivers to check vehicle safety, plan departures to avoid heavy traffic on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons before the holiday, and follow the new seatbelt law for all passengers. VDOT will suspend work zones from noon November 26 until noon December 1—allowing travelers extra caution during their long journeys. WSLS 10
