The Lynchburg Turkey Trot — a Thanksgiving Day race hosted by HumanKind and started by Don Lucy in 1988 — will take place in less than a week to support local programs.

Lynchburg Water Resources and Bedford Regional Water Authority launched the 'Enjoy the Feast, Recycle the Grease' campaign to help residents dispose of cooking oil and grease from holiday meals properly.

Free grease disposal kits are available from November 10 to December 31 at local sites—such as Lynchburg Parks and Recreation and the Community Market—to keep sewer systems clear and the environment safe.

Virginia high school football playoffs made national news when Thomas Dale's defensive back, Vicente Chavarria, intercepted a Hail Mary and ran 99 yards for a touchdown to give his team a 27-21 win over Manchester in the Region 6A semifinal.

Union High won 12-0 in the Region 2D semifinal despite playing without head coach Travis Turner, who is listed as missing by state police, and Lynchburg schools Heritage and Liberty Christian won their semifinals and will meet again on Nov. 28 at City Stadium.
