- ➤ Appalachian Power warned customers on November 26 that strong winds may lead to power outages—officials advised residents to prepare for possible service disruptions. WDBJ7
- ➤ Lynchburg restaurants helped ease the Thanksgiving load by offering ready-to-eat holiday meals—County Smoak served turkey dinners while Chestnut Hill Bakery sold over 800 pies to local families, giving many a break from kitchen duties. WSET
- ➤ Before today, the Lynchburg Sheriff's Office delivered full Thanksgiving meals door to door in its 10th annual 'We Share Because We Care' event — serving 23 families — as it partnered with schools and local businesses like Sodexo and Walmart to help local families in need. WSET
- ➤ Lynchburg resident Claude Tuggle, 88, has his soapbox derby car built at 14 on display at the Lynchburg Police Department — he built it to honor his father who served as a sergeant — and he is proud that his childhood creation is preserved. WSET
- ➤ The Salvation Army will open a warming center at 2215 Park Avenue from December 1 through March 31 for unsheltered individuals and families when temperatures fall below freezing; the center will serve a hot meal at 5:00 p.m., begin intake at 6:00 p.m., and close by 8:00 a.m. each day, partly funded by the Community Development Block Grant—ensuring a safe, warm place during cold nights. - ➤ A new pizza place will soon open downtown at 1103B Church Street. Owner Jacob Black said Cast Iron Pizza, a Launch LYH winner for 2025, will offer homemade pizzas, salads with homemade dressings, and beer and wine, with a grand opening on December 12 and regular service Thursdays through Sundays—with a breakfast pizza available on Sundays. - ➤ Polyzent Trading Inc. is a startup plastics packaging manufacturer that chose Lynchburg for its first manufacturing site and will invest $1.1 million to build the facility. Gov. Glenn said the new project is expected to create jobs and boost the local economy. The News & Advance
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ AAA said just over 100,000 Virginians are expected to fly this holiday week with extra flights added on Saturday and Sunday to ease the rush. Lynchburg Regional Airport has seen over 600 travelers since Monday and officials advise arriving early for parking and security screening. WSET
