- ➤ The Bissell Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters Holiday Hope event is underway—offering pet adoptions with fees of $70 or less at over 300 shelters including Lynchburg Humane Society. The event runs through Dec. 15 and comes as shelters face more pet surrenders due to financial and housing challenges—staff work to match each pet with the right family. WSLS 10

- ➤ A new Planet Fitness gym will open at the Amelon Square shopping center in Madison Heights in mid-to-late December to offer local residents a range of fitness options. The News & Advance

- ➤ The National D-Day Memorial will kick off Flames of Memory, a three-day event honoring the 4,427 men lost on D-Day, on Dec. 5. The event at the Bedford County attraction will run until Dec. 7 and offers a moment to remember those who sacrificed their lives. The News & Advance
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lynchburg Water Resources crews and the Department of Public Works made progress cleaning up after a Monday night water main break on 10th Street by partially reopening Jefferson Street from Ninth Street to the Riverfront Lot. Some parts of Jefferson Street remain closed plus parking restrictions are in place as crews continue work on restoring 10th Street near Commerce Street while Commerce Street is fully open. - ➤ Lynchburg is upgrading its aging water mains on 11th Street (between Court and Harrison) and closing intersections at Clay, Madison and Harrison while crews replace the main and repair sewage pipes in a project that will last six to eight weeks. Workers at the local food bank said they are not troubled by the temporary inconvenience. WSET

- ➤ Carilion announced the Life Ring program on Dec. 2nd at 5:27 p.m.—a new health initiative aimed at enhancing patient care locally. Further details on the program will be released soon. WDBJ7
- ➤ Centra Langhorne Medical Center is holding its ribbon-cutting ceremony today at 10 a.m.—the new 130,000 square foot facility over five floors will begin phasing in patients on Monday and serve diverse outpatient services including neurology, pulmonology, bariatrics, endocrinology, brain and spine care, sleep wellness, labs, imaging, and outpatient rehab therapy.
