The Magic Flute is a great opera for first timers, and for people who think they don't like opera! Forget the powdered wig and the marble bust. Mozart knew how to put on a show.
The Magic Flute was created not for a royal court, but for regular theater audiences ready to be entertained. It has dialogue in English, unforgettable songs (with supertitles above the stage so you don't miss a word), broad comedy, romance, spectacle, fantasy, a dragon, a bird catcher and his feathered love, a formidable Queen with crazy hair and some of the most glorious music Mozart ever wrote. Long before Broadway, The Magic Flute was musical comedy: funny, fantastical, accessible and designed to bring down the house.
