Karen Salyer McElmurray’s Surrendered Child: A Birth Mother’s Journey was an AWP Award Winner for Creative Nonfiction. She is the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Kentucky Foundation for Women, and the North Carolina Arts Council.
