  • Randolph College freshmen sorted nearly 20,000 pounds of potatoes for the Society of St. Andrew on Friday, August 22, delivering food to 10 local agencies (including Park View, Daily Bread, Miriam’s House, Salvation Army and God’s Storehouse) and giving leftovers to local farmers.  WSET
  • The Bedford County Fair opened Friday at Liberty Lake Park and runs through today with free rides, live entertainment and local food vendors—visitors are invited to drop off donations of peanut butter in 16 oz sizes and school supplies for children’s charities at the fair entrance.  WSET

  • Liberty University is investigating a false bomb threat as police determined no device was planted—officials urge anyone with information to contact LU at 434—592—7641.  WSET
  • A Lynchburg man pleaded guilty to attempted murder and other charges from an October 2024 home invasion that led to a high-speed chase to Lynchburg and was sentenced to 10 years and 4 months in prison at Appomattox Circuit Court—his verdict marked the closure of a lengthy legal process.  The News & Advance

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Lynchburg raised over $6.5 million in fiscal year 2025—helping pay for academic programs—and the Office of Advancement reported its success.  The News & Advance

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Outgoing Lynchburg Police Chief Ryan Zuidema said Friday he will leave for his new role in Wilmington next month with his final day on Sept. 5 while City Manager Wynter Benda decides among capable internal candidates for his successor. Deputy Chief Ken Edwards, now serving as interim chief, said he will continue the department’s standard of excellence — assuring the community remains safe.  The News & Advance
