- ➤ Registration is open for the 37th annual Lynchburg Turkey Trot—the largest 5K in the area—to benefit Humankind, which helps families during the holiday season. Race Director Keeley Cordingley said preparations are underway outside EC Glass on Thanksgiving morning. WSET

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Jubilee Family Development Center in Lynchburg launched a one-million-dollar campaign to expand its Astronaut Leland Melvin STEM center by adding a 2,100-square-foot extension with five new classrooms—including the Mark Spain Media Center—to boost career training and digital media skills. Dr. Sterling Wilder said the expansion, which offers GED, nurse aide, PCA and cybersecurity classes, has raised about $400,000 so far and will complete fundraising by fall. WSET
- ➤ With the 2025-26 school year underway, Lynchburg school divisions warn drivers to stop for stopped school buses — a rule intended to protect students — when buses load and unload. The News & Advance

- ➤ Today, Lynchburg City Council returned from a seven-week summer break at city hall with a work session at 4 p.m. to review the 2026 fiscal year budget and proposed rule changes. A finance committee meeting at 3 p.m. and a council meeting at 7 p.m. will hold a public hearing and vote on a resolution to move forward with the $104 million Blackwater CSO Tunnel project under Blackwater Creek—meant to reduce sewer overflows.
